Walks and Devour Tours in London: Best Small Group Tours

Looking for small group London tours that go beyond the typical sightseeing route? We’ve taken several WalksDevour tours across the city, and they continue to be some of our absolute favourites.

Walks and Devour have now merged into one brand, WalksDevour, bringing the food and history tours together under a single name.

Whether it’s stepping inside the Tower of London before it opens to the public, getting front-row views of the Changing of the Guard, or tasting your way through Borough Market with a local expert, these experiences offer incredible value and insight.

In this guide, we’ve rounded up our top recommended London tours from WalksDevour, including highlights, what to expect, and why they’re well worth booking in advance.

🍻 Historic Pubs Tour: Tastes, Tales & Traditional Ales

Settle into four of the City of London’s oldest pubs, each tied to literary greats and centuries of history, tracing Fleet Street’s printing past along the way. You’ll enjoy four food tastings, from pork pies to whitebait and Scotch eggs, each paired with a local ale, cider, or stout.

🏛 Best of London: Tower, Thames & the Royal Walk to Westminster

Hit London’s headline sights before lunch. Step into the Tower of London as it opens and go straight to the Crown Jewels, then board a Thames riverboat past Tower Bridge, St Paul’s, and the Shard.

Step off at Westminster Pier to walk past the Abbey, Big Ben, and Parliament, finishing at Buckingham Palace and St James’s Park. A great choice if you want the icons in a half-day and your afternoon free.

🏛 London in a Day: Inside Westminster Abbey, the Guard & the Tower

The full-day version, and the one to pick if you want to go inside the sights rather than pass them. With a Blue Badge guide you’ll step inside Westminster Abbey (on the 9am tour only) to see the Coronation Chair, watch the Changing of the Guard, and pause in Trafalgar Square beneath Nelson’s Column.

After lunch there’s a Thames cruise past the Shard, the Gherkin, and St Paul’s, then skip-the-line entry into the Tower of London and time with the Crown Jewels.

It’s a full eight-hour day with a fair bit of walking, so it suits those happy to be on their feet. Book the 9am start if you want Westminster Abbey included, as the later tour doesn’t go inside.

🔐 Complete Tower of London Tour: Opening Ceremony, Crown Jewels & River Cruise

🗝 VIP Tower of London Night Tour

This is one of my all-time favourite London experiences, and I’ve now done it twice. Once the day visitors have gone, a Yeoman Warder leads your small group through the floodlit grounds, ending with the Ceremony of the Keys, the ritual locking of the Tower performed every night for over 700 years.

What I loved most was the time with the Warder, hearing the insider gossip about what it’s actually like to live at the Tower. On one of our visits we were lucky enough to spend time inside the chapel itself.

🫖 Kensington Palace & Royal London Tour

Kensington Palace and the Queen Victoria statue in Kensington Gardens, London

A full royal day out that packs in a lot. You’ll watch the Changing of the Guard from a good viewing spot with your guide, then walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, past the Diana Memorial Fountain and the Albert Memorial.

Afternoon tea follows at the Orangery, the baroque hall Queen Anne built in 1704, with scones, sandwiches, and a proper pot of tea. You then explore Kensington Palace itself at your own pace, with pre-reserved access and an audio guide included, wandering the rooms where Queen Victoria was born.

Do be aware it runs around five and a half hours and involves a fair amount of walking, so comfortable shoes are essential and it suits those happy to be on their feet for the day.

⛪ Complete Westminster Abbey Tour with Changing of the Guard

Watch the Changing of the Guard up close, walking alongside the guards as they leave St James’s Palace, then head straight inside Westminster Abbey with a Blue Badge guide, skipping the queue.

You’ll stand near the Coronation Chair, where every British monarch since Edward I has been crowned, and trace the tombs of queens, poets, and prime ministers through the Gothic nave.
